Measure speed of sound through air and other materials. The Speed Of Sound Sensors can either be used to listen to heart beats or to measure speed of sound through air and other materials.

This pack contains 2 Stethoscope Sensors.

Measuring Sound Of Sound

The difficulty of recording the speed of sound in solids with tradition sound level sensors has been with the positioning of the sensors on a test surface. The Stethoscope sensor has a shape that allows the sensor to be placed directly onto the surface, no additional apparatus is required.

The bell structure of the Stethoscope sensor is more effective in isolating the sounds being recorded from the environment and makes collection of the data simple and repeatable

Specification

Ranges 4, Stethoscope, Stethoscope F, Sound mV, Sound F mV
Stethoscope ±100 mV The most sensitive range used for making recordings of the heart beat sound wave.
Stethoscope F ±100 mV Has a low pass filter that reduces the effect of higher frequency sounds that can be created by speech, movement of the sensor over the skin, etc. Use for recording the heart beat sound wave in an area where background noise is a problem.
Sound ±1000 mV A reduced sensitivity range for detection of sound in solids.
Sound F ±1000 mV Has a low pass filter which allows the low frequency sounds to pass through to the logger and removes some high frequency sounds.

Other Information

The Stethoscope sensor is not waterproof, when recording in water you must use a polythene bag to contain the immersed sensor. The bag must be both waterproof and leak proof.
